Windows 8 Gains 7.4% Tablet Market share with 3 Million Shipments in Q1 2013 [Report]

Microsoft has kept its silence regarding how the Redmond Company has been  doing after cracking the tablet market with Windows 8 devices. However, that didn’t stop analysts to keep tabs on Microsoft’s progress as according to Strategy Analytics, 3 million Windows 8 tablet devices have been shipped in Q1 2013, which has raised Windows 8 market share from 0 to 7.8% in the global tablet OS market.
According to Strategy Analytics figures (shown below), compared to the dominant players in the tablet OS market – iOS and Android – Microsoft’s share is still very modest. The report points out that less figures were as a result of “very limited distribution, a shortage of top tier apps, and confusion in the market, are all holding back shipments”. Another interesting thing regarding the figure is the fact that while Apple leads the market share, it has faced a dramatic decrease in its share from previous share, as a result of Android’s dominance.

Considering the fact that it’s Microsoft’s first attempt to penetrate the hugely saturated tablet market, it has managed to gain decent a decent traction. With the upcoming affordable line up of 7-inch Windows 8 tablets, the platform is surely expected to get a boost in its tablet shares. Are you looking forward to buy a Windows 8 tablet?
