Splashtop 2 For iPad Updated

For those iPad users who are interested in cross-drive connectivity and remote access of their PC through their iPad, here are some good news from Splashtop.

The Splashtop 2 update pushes the already-capable Splashtop 2 app version 2.2.0.6, with some very notable new features. Quoting the official press release, the new version will allow users to:

Customize their tablet experience by creating keyboard shortcuts, virtual joysticks, and mouse controls for faster and more seamless remote access with their Macs and PCs.
Bring Custom Shortcuts, Gamepad And Windows 8 / OS X Gestures Support

The Splashtop 2 app is available through the iTunes App Store for $4.99, and works only on the iPad. Users who have already purchased the app can update to the new version for free, of course, but there’s still a catch.

The newly introduced features do not come packaged with the app for free; rather, they require separate in-app purchases to be unlocked and put to use. As far as the pricing model for these go, configurable shortcuts and game-pad add-ons are available for $0.99 a month, or $9.99 a year.

Gesture support for Windows 8 and OS X, however, comes free, so that’s a relief. So If you’re a Windows 8 user, you might also want to check out the Splashtop Remote DesktopModern UI app.
