Galaxy S5 Not to have curved display

Contrary to earlier claims, rumours and gossips, it has been learnt now that Galaxy S5 will NOT feature a curved display, says the Korea Herald.

The decision has been taken due to production limitations.

“The current capacity for flexible panels is not high enough for the Galaxy S5, which will be rolled out early next year. Curved ones will be unveiled late next year as a Galaxy variant rather than as a flagship model,” said Kim Jong-hyun, an analyst at Seoul-based Eugene Investment & Securities.

It may be added that Samsung’s current production lines are capable of handling 8,000 5.5-generation sheets per month to produce up to 500,000 flexible panels for smartphones, with a 30 percent yield, a figure that’s nowhere near the millions of units every Galaxy S flagship sells and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

It is also reported that Apple is also unlikely to adopt curved OLED until 2015.

So all those who have been waiting for a curved screen early next year, may now have to wait till the year end 2014.

Would you wait that long?
