Galaxy S4 Will Feature PowerVR GPU instead of ARM’s Mali

The gossips and rumors about the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S4 continue even today as the launch date is just a day away now.

The latest news is that the Exynos Octa Soc that would power the upcoming Galaxy S4 smartphone would contain a PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU instead of the speculated ARM’s Mali.

This news comes from Imagination Technologies which has finally confirmed that Samsung’s Exynos 5410 ‘Octa’ would indeed incorporate an Imagination’s PowerVR SGX544MP core. This is definitely a huge step for Samsung as it’s the first time the Korean giant opted for  a GPU other than that of Mali’s since the original Galaxy S smartphone.

PowerVR series of GPUs have been majorly used in iOS devices till now. Whereas the 3D benchmarks are concerned, iPhone, iPad devices have persistently beaten every smartphone out there, thanks to the powerful PowerVR GPU inside. With Samsung narrowing down to PowerVR GPU architecture, it might become more convenient for making optimized games for both iOS and Android as well.

There’s no explanation of why Samsung chose to opt Imagination Tech this time but from user’s perspective this move truly seems to be beneficial. Let’s see how well does the  PowerVR SGX 544MP3 GPU coupled with the Exynos 5 Octa performs in terms of benchmarks when the Galaxy S4 launches after one day.
